Auckland holiday recount

During the holidays, I traveled to Auckland to see the sky tower and say goodbye to my cousin. So I wrote a recount about it. In class, we have been learning about figurative language. This is what I wrote.

                                                                             ART 

 In the first week of the holidays, I stayed at my cousin's house and we were meant to go to a holiday program. My cousin's teacher called her and said she had to do some art for her credits so we didn't end up going to the holiday program. While my cousin was doing art the teacher asked me if I wanted to do art. So She told me to search up what I wanted to draw or paint on and I said anything so she printed out a brain in a gar, skeleton hand, and a skeleton body frame. Later that day the teacher went to get us all a feed of garlic chips.

 

                                                                        GOING OUT

After we finished the art, I and my cousin went to my house to wait for my uncle to pick us up. When we arrived home, my nieces and nephews came over and we had to look after them. On the second week of the holiday, my family and I had to go take our family photos. We took photos when we went out to Paihia for lunch at jimmy jacks. When everyone was finished my mum asked me and my siblings if we wanted to go out to the lookout in Paihia to take more photos. Then we went to play at the beach.

                                                                        AUCKLAND

When I went back to my cousin's house they asked me if I wanted to go to Auckland with them to drop my other cousin off so she could catch her flight to Aussie. My uncle booked us a hotel in Auckland for when we get there. When we finally arrived in Auckland my cousin yelled “ Yass were in Auckland already” We arrived at Auckland at 10:30  then went to get dinner and go back to the hotel. It was funny because my uncle and aunty were trying to sleep while I and my cousins were being so loud.

The next day, my uncle, aunt, and cousin went to take my other cousin to the airport to catch her flight at 12:00 in the afternoon so she didn't miss it. When she finally jumped on the plane we went to get a feed of KFC Then made our way back home and got back at four in the afternoon. When we got home, we jumped out of the car and went to ride the motorbikes then went to pick my other cousin up so we could go for rides.

 

                                                                        REFLECTION                                        

Going back to Auckland to see the city, because we could see the lights from the sky tower from where the hotel

                       was me and my cousins being loud while my aunty and uncle were sleeping. 

Plants

In class, I have been learning about explanation writing here is my work

         Introduction

In my thoughts, I think excreting is how plants absorb water and sunlight through their leaves and that it keeps them staying alive and healthy with excreting but the sun and water also give it the energy to stay in a plant. This process is called photosynthesis

  Osmosis

If some plant cells are put in water, they will absorb it and swell up. If you add a little sugar to the water, then a little more, and so on, at some point, the cells will stop absorbing water and start to lose it. This is called a process of osmosis. In osmosis, water moves from where it has a high concentration to where it has a low concentration.

                                                           Transpiration

In the plant stems or tree trunks, water moves upwards through thin pipes called xylem. The water is pulled up through the xylem as water evaporates in the leaves at the top of the pipes. This loss of water by plant leaves is called transpiration.

 

                                              How plants start off from a seed

Every plant starts off as a seed. So firstly you bury a seed and keep feeding it water and leaving it in the sunlight, then you'll get roots from it. What happens in the middle of it where the roots go down for them to come out as a plant is that in the middle of it you feed it water and then the plant will start to grow out. When the plant starts to pop out then you'll see all the roots at the bottom of it and in the middle of it, it'll start to get bigger then the more you feed it water and keep it in the sunlight the bigger it will go.

                                                                               

                                                  Summary

In summary, the plants have to have water and sunlight otherwise they won't grow and my story is just about plants and how they grow and how water and sunlight help them grow.     

Geometry language

 In term 2 the primes 2 & 3 have been learning about geometric language and here is a picture of my drawing about geometry and here is my writing

In my patterns, it shows that on the gold triangles two sides are the same and there is an isosceles

triangle and they are all translating. On my blue shapes in the middle, these are the shapes that are

reflecting

one another and they are irregular hexagons but they are also rotational symmetries.

On my grey regular hexagons on the sides that show there are 8 vertices and there is 4 line symmetry.

On my pink squares, they are rotating but I turned them into diamonds to make them rotate around.

 

How to make a Ukutangi

I have been learning to write explanation texts. The 'ingredients' in explanation text are introductions with background info, hook and focus statement, subtitles, and paragraphs.   

How to make a Taonga puoro?

                                  Introduction

In the distance, I can hear a beautiful sound. That sound comes from a Ukutangi which is the same as a taonga puoro. Some people use it for ceremonies, sending messaging, music instruments, and used to make a calm space. This year our class made their own ukutangi out of clay.

                                          How to make a ukutangi

Firstly we grabbed the clay out of the bag and rolled it into a ball then we were throwing it into both palms to get the ball round. After we finished rolling it we split it into two pieces then we rounded them into shape. We scratched around the ukutangi with a toothpick to make both bowls stay together. We pressed our thumb through the middle of our own ukutangi after we finished putting them back together. Then we had to get some water and put it around to get all the little cracks out of it. 

                               How to make the sound of a ukutangi

So the top where you blow is where you make the sound of an ukutangi. So you have to make sure you blow on the sides and half of your breath goes in and half of your breath goes out. When blowing the ukutangi you have to put it on the side of your mouth and make sure that the top is softened down.

                                         

                                                     Decorating the ukutangi

After your ukutangi has finished drying you can decorate it with any design. When doing your design make sure you don't do a design on the top of where you blow. When you decorate your ukutangi because otherwise when you blow it the sound won't come out properly you can do any pattern all around it with a toothpick. 

     

                                                                  Summary

    

I enjoyed making a mess and learning how to blow it and decorating it and just had fun making it.  Ukutangi is a Maori traditional instrument; they are taonga.

Narrative Writing

                      The battle of kororareka 

Our task was to write a historical narrative. I chose my setting and time to be the battle of Kororareka

Back in the days of kororareka why all the fighting happened was because all the pakeha moved the capital to Auckland so that all of the traders went to Auckland and not to Russell. Why they also had a fight was because the pakeha made the maori flag fly up on the hill and made it get stuck up there so that the maori had no flag. Then they all stopped fighting because the pakeha retreated out their boats so the maori was left with nothing cause the pakeha had took all their money  and why they didn't want them going to Russell was because all the boats were everywhere around their and heaps of houses up on the hills and now there's not much houses around there anymore.

On my second day of school we had a class trip and the juniors came too and it was to opononi to a museum.when we arrived to the museum we had to let  the year 1 and 2 go in first so we let them go in and then the teachers told us to get back into the bus so we could go see tane mahuta when we arrived we got out of the bus and walked in to go take some photos and we stayed there for a little bit.

 Then we all went back to the museum and we went in side and the juniors went to go to tane mahuta so we walked over to where we had to put our bags and me and mahina where watching this maori television thing and then it was time we had to go outside and when we were walking the lady would stop us to see these important people to us and they were made out of wood and there were all sorts of people that carved them.

Then we finally got to go and see this movie they put on for us and some pieces in the movie where it was kind of scary cause there were these things on the side of the chairs and they would wet us with water but we didn't know that.

anyways when we got into watching it again then there was this octopus on the movie and all our feet where on the ground there was this string that went up our legs and we thought it came from somewhere else but i felt under the chair and it was the string that hit our legs.Then we carried on watching the movie until the end then when it finished we had to sing a song to the people that were there.

 When we got out of there and went to get our bags we sat on the grass just above the beach and had lunch from the school that we have everyday then we came back to school.
